This study by researchers at the University of Edinburgh was the first to seek out any differences in the intelligence quotient between men and women. Other studies have shown, as again in this study that there is no notable difference in the average intelligence between men and women. Many fields of science have noticed and studied how women have advanced in recent decades to be in the majority of once male dominated fields as higher levels in medicine. There are now more female graduates from medical school and we applaud that. The more nurturing and superior communication skills of women is good news for us all as the old white men who too often thought they were gods retire. They were often not perfect healthy lifestyles role models as the younger female doctors are closer to being.

And yet this difference in the Edinburgh study shows there is a much greater variability in the intelligence of men than in women. Men are twice as likely to be in the top, and the lowest tier of intelligence. Which, for women and even us men, explains much. How is it a standard joke that the fellows in the bar all agree that grown men poking each other in the eye is hilarious? Their female dates usually roll their eyes not poked at the ceiling wondering where all the brainy men are. Brains can of course be made stronger or weaker by healthy lifestyles or not.

Well, from this news, it seems you ladies tend to bunch towards the intelligent high center and keep gaining brain power as you gain rights and confidence. And the reverse may be happening to men and in particular those in that wider pool of dumb and dumber, of which males are twice the gene pool.

Knowing this, and that the Bill Gates brain types usually bore you to tears, while handsome Jack the football hero who played once too often without his helmet is off with his team mates watching the Three Stooges movie. But to take this to a deeper level we could look at how this fact, if it continues to be verified in further studies, indicates changes in schooling and opportunities for the lost boys now being left behind.

Studies show how the girls generally now gain the higher grades and the scholarships; and to the extent that this advances opportunities for girls such as my grand daughters is is very good. But if our grand sons are not prepared for the skills they can exceed at and be encouraged to learn their skill and get at it and build a good life for themselves, as I have tried to do with my own grand sons, they may be part of the lost generation of boys who become men who fill the bursting jails of America.

Boys love machines and there are so many jobs out west crying for men who can be serious enough to operate equipment, which fortunately is several tiers down from rocket scientist. But trade school could come sooner for some.

Meanwhile the girls are becoming the doctors which is such good news as the fine old white doctors who thought they were god retire. Now more likely the orderlies and nurses are men who dropped their education too soon. And soon they will be creating their male versions of the previously female world of humor: what is the difference between a man doctor and God? God does not think he is a doctor.

And unless you are seated at a rocket scientist dinner, when you sit among most groups of men and women we could all be more aware. The brains of the women are generally in a bright cluster of intelligence. And the brains of the men may range from a budding Einstein to that loud fool down the table: you know who will be thinking, and who will be talking. And now we can understand more easily why death while having a beer can shot off your head happens only to men. And meanwhile in town his cousin is just discovering a new vaccine. And his sister just got her medical degree.

Now we can easier understand why. And reach out to redirect all to their God given level of potential.

By: Derek Dashwood

Easy science fair projects are ideal ways for students to learn to do projects and demonstrate them to lay people and explain to them in simple non technical terms. So being initial training, it’s good if the easy science fair project turns out to be something easy, manageable and elementary.

This training to do the easy science fair projects for the beginners’ can be started in the elementary school itself. Teaching them to select simple single step experiments and explaining to the students how to use simple materials to conduct the experiments. Making them understand and allowing them to explain it in their own words of what they understand will make sure that they had understood the concept. Teaching them to explain it to the audiences who frequent the fair will help them use non-technical terms. Many fairs are usually largely attended by the parents, and close relatives and students of other schools, so it is important for students to be able to express their knowledge and not sound overwhelmed.

Going for an easy science fair project will help the student and parents get all the materials easily, motivate them to put in their creative efforts, sustain and develop their interest in the field of science and also understand simple things much clearly. The topic can be selected from any area of science. Creativity and originality have to be encouraged. Support and guidance will keep the students motivated to exhibit the best.

There are plenty of sources to select an experiment for an easy science fair project. Science books contain them according to the age groups. There are many science forums that make learning science easy and interesting for children. The internet is full of sites offering help, but caution must be urged in utilizing the many free sources of information. The projects that you can find just anywhere on the internet are overdone, and typically receive poorer grades than the more creative projects you can find by digging deeper.

Teaching your children that everything is governed by laws of nature in their young age helps them not to be carried by various myths spread around. Giving them a chance to ask questions and fueling their inquisitive mind will keep their minds active and creative. It is also a platform for them to exhibit their talents to the lay people and to let parents know what they learn in the school.

It is a fair place to introduce the use of simple scientific tools, methods, techniques, concepts and equipments, to small children. The use of such materials by the children should be always supervised and monitored. The danger of handling such instruments should also be inculcated in their minds, though in a way that they don’t fear using them.

Use of simple materials that are easily available either naturally or in and around the area make it easier to start the experiment or project with less investments and wastage of time in acquiring them.

By: Jordan Matthews

Why is the grass green? Why is the sky blue? Why is the tree bigger than the other? Why do I feel hungry? These are a few of the hundred questions a child asks his parents day in and day out.

But by condemning children for their incessant questions, you stub out their inquisitiveness that leads to growth of knowledge. Teaching science and nature to kids is a great way to help them explore the world. A world that is far different than what they live in. You may think they get enough of science from their school textbooks. But that is far little than what a malleable kid’s mind can devour.

You do not have to set up a lab or invest heavily in instruments. The world is an open laboratory and the best way to teach your child is to take him out into the world. Stare at the moon and see it change shapes through the month. Makes notes of the same on the calendar and then predict its shape for the coming week.

See flowers bloom and question why flowers droop and wither, See animal and plant behaviour, see fish move swiftly and check how they sleep, how does the washing machine work, how does the fruit mixer grind fruits? What is the material in a sofa or a bed, why is it used?

Science is everywhere, it can be learnt and observed and fed into your child’s mind, leaving them asking more questions than ever before. You don’t have to be a scientist or an engineer to know all the answers but a positive approach towards science is all that you need.

Keep your mind and ears open and teach your children the same. Fuel them to ask questions, relevant questions not just mindless questions. Put science books under their noses and sit and watch discovery and national geographic together with your kids.

Hold mini competitions in your house with questions in regard to general knowledge of science and nature. This will encourage your children to dig into books and learn the nuances of everyday science. Being in-step with science will help your child be updated and walk tall in life.

How do you get a cold? What is the cure to it? How can you avoid getting a cold? Are a few questions you can get your child to ask and answer? Do not spoon feed them, let the mind explore. It helps build logic to form an answer. In this way children can decode science and make sense of the world.

When your children are exposed to the world or in conversation with older people they can be a part of it with their wealth of information which only you can induce them to swallow. Sometimes children get so engrossed in science and nature that they get far ahead in life and take up professions in relation to this field. But it all begins when the tender mind is hungry for knowledge.

By: Jennie Gandhi

As adults if we hate science then it is because we were not taught right when we were kids. Science can be a captivating subject instead of a bore…runaway subject. If classroom science is boring for your kids then it is time you take up the book and drill your kids about it. But first you should enjoy what you are teaching.

To get your kids interested in science induces them to have a questioning nature. Why, how, when…these are a few questions they should ask themselves or you whenever you teach them something. This way it keeps their mind functioning and builds their logic.

Why is the sky blue? How does the sea get filled with water? From where do waves arise? Why does one feel hungry? What is the body made up of? How does one get the urge to attend natures call? Why do stars shine? Why is the moon visible only at night? How are we living on this planet? Is there any other planet that has living organisms? Were humans the first things on earth?

This way they will find answers to their nagging questions and build new ones. They will understand better and have a clear idea of what they are learning. If you stub their questions then it does not get answered, not is school nor at home. Some kids will try to find it out on their own while most of them will prefer to forget about it and thus stun their IQ.

Another interesting way to deal with it is to have causal quiz contests at home. Let your kids do their school homework and also get some basic general knowledge. Then you have a question answer, buzzer, fast answer round and the one with the most answers wins an extra piece of cake after dinner.

You can hold science quizzes in your neighbourhood. Or among your family members when everyone meets. This way you will motivate your kids to get out of bed and get studying. Buying them science books, taking them to the planetarium or science exhibitions is nice way to expose them to the happenings in the world. All in all your motivation and cadence will help them build interest and take on science as a fun loving subject.

By: Jennie Gandhi
